DIGITAL BROADCASTING SYSTEM AND PROCESSING METHOD

A digital broadcasting system and a digital broadcast processing method are provided to improve performance of a channel against noise and a ghost by additionally encoding enhanced data and transmitting the encoded enhanced data. An E-VSB(Enhanced Vestigial Side Band) packet formatter(102) and a multiplexer(103) form an enhanced data packet by including at least one of enhanced data and a known data location holder and adding an MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) header, group a plurality of continuous enhanced data packets and then multiplex the grouped enhanced data packets with a main data packet. An RS(Reed Solomon) parity location holder insertion part(106) inserts a plurality of RS parity location holders into many byte locations most lately outputted among remaining locations except for the MPEG header and a known data location within the enhanced data packets if outputs of the E-VSB packet formatter and the multiplexer are the enhanced data packets. A data interleaver(107) performs data interleaving for an output of the RS parity location holder insertion part.
