A device controlling electric power supply for a cooling fan in a projector and a method thereof are provided to use the projector effectively by making the projector movable right after the use of the projector. A device controlling electric power supply for a cooling fan in a projector includes a main power source(100) supplying an electric power for operation of the projector. A main power detector(140) measures a voltage of main power supplied from the main power source and transmits the voltage value to a controller(160). The controller transmits a power source selecting signal to a power source selector(130) when the voltage of the main power transmitted from the main power detector is lower than a standard voltage. The power source selector selects a power source between the main power source and a secondary power source(110) after receiving the power source selecting signal. The secondary power source supplies electric power for operating the cooling fan in the projector when the voltage of the main power source is lower than the standard voltage. An alarm generator(170) generates an alarm signal after receiving alarm generating data from the controller. The controller transmits the alarm generating signal to the alarm generator when the voltage of the main power source is lower than the standard voltage. |
