The box (10) has a header plate (20) comprising slots (22) allowing the insertion of heat-exchange tubes. The box has an extruded closed-profile hollow metal section (18) having an inner wall (26) into which openings (38, 40, 42, 44) are cut. The openings are partially closed off by the header plate that outwardly covers the inner wall of the extruded metal section. The openings are enclosed by end material bridges (46) disposed at ends of the metal section, respectively. The bridges extend between two lateral walls and form connections or spacers. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing a header box for a heat exchanger.
