A backlight unit and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the same are provided to stably join a frame and a thin light guiding plate to each other and prevent the illumination by a wall from being generated in the edge of a light emitting region, by using a photo-absorption and adhesion member for adhering the light guiding plate to the frame. A frame(110) has an opening formed therein. A light guiding plate(120) adheres to the frame, wherein the light guiding plate is larger than the opening of the frame. A photo-absorption and adhesion member(130) adhere the light guiding plate to the frame, wherein the photo-absorption and adhesion member absorbs color lights. A white light source unit(140) supplies white light to the light guiding plate. The photo-absorption and adhesion member is selected from an adhesive member including a double-sided adhesive tape, silicon, and epoxy.
