The roller replacement procedure consists of positioning a first carriage (100a-c) close to the rolling mill stand, halting the rolling process and sliding out the used rollers with chocks lengthwise onto a replacement chassis (130a) on the carriage. The first carriage is then withdrawn, and a second carriage (200) with an empty exchange chassis (230) and a second chassis (231) with new rollers is aligned with the replacement chassis of the first carriage. The used rollers are transferred to the second carriage and the chocks transferred to the replacement rollers, which are inserted into the mill stand, and the rolling process re-started.
