A recording method for an optical recording and reproducing apparatus is provided to prevent a recording error through a pretreatment such as the replacement of an optical disc and prevent the loss of information by displaying recording environment before the start of record and predicting a recording successful rate. If an optical disc is loaded(S101), a kind of the optical disc is judged(S103). When the loaded optical disc is a recordable disc, an initialization process for setting RF(Radio Frequency) power and servo timing is performed(S105). The optical disc is divided into a plurality of areas, and a characteristic value including a focus offset, the optimum tilt determination value, and an RF reflective signal level is confirmed according to the respective areas(S107). An OPC(Optimum Power Control) process for selecting recording power suitable for the optical disc is performed in inner circumference and outer circumference, and record is performed for a specific sector(S109). A grade of recording environment is determined according to the deviation of the area-classified characteristic values of the optical disc, an OPC jitter value, and a bit error rate(S111). The determined recording environment grade is displayed to predict a recording successful rate(S113). Recording start power is set up from the recording power selected in the OPC process in consideration of a current recording speed, and data to be recorded are recorded in the optical disc according to a file structure by using the set recording start power(S115-S123). |
