#CMT# #/CMT# The method involves determining a timing tolerance band between a movable member (8) and a stem (3) of a valve (1) during movement of the member between extreme valve open and closed positions. Intermediate positions attained by the member within the band are determined based on different values of an electrical parameter for controlling electromagnetic units (14, 15) of an actuator. The units are controlled in position by taking one of the intermediate positions as a set-point value based on desired performances of the actuator. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Used for controlling an electromagnetic actuator of a valve in a heat engine (claimed) of a motor vehicle. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The electromagnetic units are controlled in position by taking one intermediate position as the set-point value, thus permitting to stop the movable member in a desired position for limiting contact noise of the movable member with electromagnets of the units and to adapt the functioning of the actuator to the functioning conditions of the heat engine.
