Free-standing pillar has a hollow section (1) and a foot (10). An end plate (2) is fastened at foot-side end of the hollow section. The end plate comprises an opening (3) and the foot has an opening (11) aligned with it. A hollow cylinder (4) is provided with head ring (6). A springy spreading foot (5) is inserted into the openings of end plate and foot. A spreading pin (7) is inserted into hollow cylinder and braces spreading foot against the foot.
