PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communications system that contributes to reduction in cost, while realizing short-time and high-accuracy communication. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a communications system which performs two-way communication through a same communication path for each communication cycle period between a master station and a slave station, wherein from the start of a communication cycle period T<SB>c</SB>until an interval period T<SB>i</SB>that is shorter than the communication cycle period T<SB>c</SB>has elapsed, the master station transmits master data, represented at a first ratio R<SB>m</SB>of first pulse width T<SB>m</SB>with respect to the communication cycle period T<SB>c</SB>, to the slave station. In a remaining period T<SB>r</SB>after the interval period T<SB>i</SB>in the communication cycle period T<SB>c</SB>, the slave station transmits slave data represented at a second ratio R<SB>s</SB>of second pulse width T<SB>s</SB>with respect to the interval period T<SB>i</SB>, to the master station.
