PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a paper feeding device capable of carrying sheet materials with good feeding efficiency and preventing double feed by separating the whole areas of the sheet materials. SOLUTION: A tip part of the uppermost sheet material stacked on a paper feed tray is sucked on paper feed rolls 16 by suction force generated in suction holes 30 by a suction device. In this state, by rotation of the paper feed rolls, the sheet material is fed to the downstream side in the carrying direction. Since the paper feed rolls 16 are rotated in the carrying direction, the uppermost sheet material is separated from the sheet material under it, so as to prevent double feed.
