A portable terminal containing an IC card which can be switched from an unlocked state to a locked state at a timing most suitable for the IC card user. The portable terminal (1) comprises a use limitation instructing section (131) for switching an IC card (17) to a locked state in which the wireless communication with a card reader/writer (2) is inhibited or to an unlocked state in which the wireless communication with the card reader/writer (2) is allowed and a voltage detecting section (18) for detecting the intensity of the radio wave received from the card reader/writer (2) by the IC card (17) in the unlocked state. When the detected radio wave intensity is varied from a value equal to or above a threshold to the one below the threshold, the use limitation instructing section (131) switches the state of the IC card (17) to the locked state.
