PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter of an internal combustion engine which comprises a drive force transmission mechanism transmitting the drive force of a starting prime mover to a crankshaft through a one-way clutch and in which its characteristics are suitably maintained while lubricating the one-way clutch. SOLUTION: A plurality of holes 52a are formed in the outer race 52 of the one-way clutch. A fuel flow passage 81 feeding a surplus fuel is formed in the outer race 52 starting at the outer periphery of the outer race 52 toward the holes 52a. A discharge pipe 80c having a discharge port 80d positioned in proximity to the holes 52a is disposed in the fuel flow passage 81. An injection valve return pipe 18c for returning the surplus fuel discharged from a fuel injection valve to a fuel tank is connected to the discharge pipe 80c. The surplus fuel discharged from the fuel injection valve is fed to the one-way clutch through the injection valve return pipe 18c, the discharge pipe 80c, the fuel flow passage 81, and the holes 52a.
