PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a discharge display panel for effective initialization. SOLUTION: The method of driving the discharge display panel 1 comprises dividing a unit frame into a plurality of subfields SF<SB>1</SB>to SF<SB>S</SB>for a time-division gradation display, and dividing each of the subfields into initialization periods R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>S</SB>, an addressing period A, and a sustaining period S, in which a driving power for the initialization in the subfield having the largest gradation weight among the plurality of the subfields SF<SB>1</SB>to SF<SB>S</SB>is lower than that in each of the other subfields.
