Disclosed is a liquid crystal panel comprising a liquid crystal cell, a first polarizer arranged on one side of the liquid crystal cell, a second polarizer arranged on the other side of the liquid cell, a biaxial optical element arranged between the liquid crystal cell and the first polarizer, and a negative C plate arranged between the second polarizer and the biaxial optical element. The absorption axis of the first polarizer is substantially orthogonal to the absorption axis of the second polarizer. The refractive index ellipsoid of the biaxial optical element has the following relationship: nx > nz > ny, and the slow axis of the biaxial optical element is substantially parallel to the absorption axis of the first polarizer. The refractive index ellipsoid of the negative C plate has the following relationship: nx = ny > nz. The wavelength dispersion value (D<SUB>1</SUB>) of the biaxial optical element and the wavelength dispersion value (D<SUB>2</SUB>) of the negative C plate have the following relationship: D<SUB>1</SUB> = D<SUB>2</SUB>.
