PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the speed of image reading processing and to reduce the cost of a device used in image signal processing or the like. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an image reader in which a plurality of sensor IC chips are arrayed. The number of the plurality of sensor IC chips is defined as natural number multiple of 3 and the same number of sensor IC chips is divided into cascade-connected blocks of the natural number multiple of 3, on the other hand. At the same time, image signals are output in series for each of the blocks and when driving sensor chips of one block, sensor IC chips of the other plurality of blocks are also simultaneously driven in parallel. The sensor IC chip is at least provided with an A/D converter whose channel number of the input signal is 3, and a plurality of image signals output for each block of the plurality of sensor IC chips are directly input to each of the channels of the A/D converter, respectively.
