An apparatus and method for sealing a plastic film is disclosed. The apparatus includes (a) at least one jaw housing a sealing element, (b) a source of impulse power to heat the sealing element over a predetermined amount of time to a temperature range effective for sealing the plastic film, (c) a temperature sensor for sensing the temperature related to the temperature of the sealing element, (d) a controller responsive to the sensed temperature and adapted to modify the duration of the impulse power applied to the sealing element when the sensed temperature falls outside the temperature range, and to continuously maintain the temperature range within the range over a plurality of sealing cycles. |
