THE PRESENT INVENTION IS AN OBJECT-ORIENTED, HIGHER-LAYER NETWORK PROTOCOL STACK WHICH PROVIDES AN EFFECTIVE AND VERSATILE COMMUNICATION SERVICES TO EXISTING CONNECTIONLESS OR CONNECTIONORIENTED LOWER-LAYER NETWORK PROTOCOLS. THE PRESENT NETWORK PROTOCOL EMBODIMENT (30) UTILIZED INDEXBASED NETWORK AND SESSION-LAYER ROUTING IDENTIFIERS TO FACILITATE MAPPING OF ROUTING INFORMATION WHICH ENABLE THE EASE OF MIGRATION PATH AND INTERNETWORK OF DIFFERING NETWORK SYSTEMS.THE PRESENT EMBODIMENT ENABLES APPLICATION SOFTWARE PROGRAMS, WITH FINITE-STATE MODE OF COMMUNICATION, TO COMMUNICATE EFFICIENTLY USING EXISTING CONNECTION-ORIENTED NETWORK PROTOCOLS. THE PRESENT EMBODIMENT ALSO PROVIDES A METHOD TO SEPARATELY ENCAPSULATE AND IDENTIFY USER-CONTROL INFORMATION (81) FROM USER-DATA INFORMATION (82), AND ALLOCATES DIFFERENT REQUIRED TRANSPORT SERVICES FOR THE DIFFERING INFORMATION TRAFFICS.THE PRESENT EMBODIMENT FURTHER PROVIDES A METHOD FOR USING NETWORK PROTOCOL SERVICES TO DETERMINE AND ALLOCATE THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORIZED ACCESS TO THE APPLICATION END-POINT DURING CONNECTION ESTABLISHMENT, AND TO FILTER OUT UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS AT THE NETWORK INTERFACE. THE PRESENT EMBODIMENT CREATES A UNIQUE VIRTUAL DEDICATED-MEDIA INTERNETWORKING ENVIRONMENT (10), FOR B-ISDN APPLICATION SERVICES, WHEN COUPLED WITH ATM PROTOCOL.(FIG. 1)
