摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of an endoscope insertion part shape recognition system. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic field generator for generating an AC magnetic field is provided. Coils S1-S5 for detecting the AC magnetic field generated by the magnetic field generator are arranged at every prescribed distance along the center axis of an endoscope insertion part 12. The positions on the three-dimensional space of the coils S1-S5 are calculated from signals detected in the coils S1-S5 and the shape of the insertion part 12 is reproduced. At the soft part 12A of the insertion part 12, a plurality of cylindrical hard members 12D having rigidity to withstand the bending of the soft part 12A are arranged at every prescribed interval. On the inner side of the hard members 12D, the coils S2-S5 are respectively arranged.
