<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, in which use efficiency of oxidant gas does not degraded even when PM is oxidized and removed by using the oxidant gas, and the possibility of breakage is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: In a wall flow type particulate filter, honeycomb structure 32 in a shape of a round column has a plurality of through passages formed by porous ceramic partition walls 33. At a front end of the honeycomb structure, first plugs 35 are alternately disposed to the through passages so as to form rear end open cells 34F, and at a rear end thereof, second plugs 36 are disposed to the through passages with no first plugs 35 so as to form front end open cells 34F. In a cross-sectional surface including the center line of the honeycomb structure, the second plugs 36 are disposed so that the envelope connecting front ends of the second plugs 36 approximately matches with a velocity distribution curve of gas flowing in the honeycomb structure. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
