Method and system for cooling an electrolytic cell for aluminium production

Disclosed is a method for cooling a fused bath electrolytic cell (1) for aluminium production which consists in producing droplets of a coolant (or divided coolant), preferably in a confined volume in contact with a specific surface of at least one wall of the pot shell (2) of the electrolytic cell (1), so as to cause all or part of said droplets to be evaporated by contact with said surface and in removing said heat from said surface. The disclosure also concerns a cooling system (100) for implementing the cooling method. The invention enables highly efficient cooling through the latent heat of the coolant evaporation.
