PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve pointing stability of ultra-short pulse laser light entering an observation device body by a simple constitution; to generate efficiently a multiphoton excitation effect; and to acquire a clear multiphoton fluorescent image. SOLUTION: This multiphoton excitation type observation device 1 is equipped with a pulse laser light source 4 for emitting an ultra-short pulse laser light L; the observation device body 3 for irradiating the sample A with the ultra-short pulse laser light L emitted from the pulse laser light source 4, and observing fluorescence emitted from the sample A; and an acoustic optical modulation filter 5 arranged between the pulse laser light source 4 and the observation device body 3, for modulating the ultra-short pulse laser light L emitted from the pulse laser light source 4.
