PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing a 1,2-dimercaptoethylsilyl compound from a general-purpose raw material. SOLUTION: The production method for the 1,2-dimercaptoethylsilyl compound expressed by formula (2) is characterized by reacting a silyl compound expressed by formula (1) with a reductant in an alcohol solvent [in formula (1) R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each independently a 1-2C alkyl group or alkoxy group where at least one is an alkoxy group, and R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each independently a 1-3C alkyl group or a substituted or non-substituted aryl group; and in formula (2) R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are the same as above-described].
