<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a cleaning member from being affected by an abrupt change of action force and to drastically extend the lifetime of the member. <P>SOLUTION: A cleaning device is configured such that a spindle 21 is located in the range of an area A on the upper side of a tangent line L1 and on the right side of a normal line L2, the spindle angle θ between the tangent line on the cleaned face side of an image carrier and a straight line connecting a point of contact and the center of the spindle of the cleaning member is 130-160°, and the contact angle α between the tangent line on the cleaned face side of the image carrier and the cleaning member is 5-25°. When the image carrier is driven, force acting on the cleaning member in the position of the point of contact Q depends almost solely on applied pressing load and varies hardly according to variation of the friction coefficient, therefore action force on the cleaning member is less even for temporal variation of the friction coefficient, and the cleaning member can accurately maintain its characteristics and can exhibit high cleaning performance over a long period of time. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
