PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical multiplexing/demultiplexing element which can be produced by a low-cost process, and also, easily designed. SOLUTION: Regarding the optical multiplexing/demultiplexing element, viewing from the upper surface of a flat optical wave guide, the external shape is polygonal, and the first side is a reflection surface or a light incident/exit part 13, and the element has a second side which is straight and oblique to the first side, and at least two or more light incident/exit parts 12 are arranged adjacent to the second side or arranged in the optical wave guide, consequently, easy alignment of components is attained.
