PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treatment apparatus capable of easily cleaning the inside of a garbage treatment chamber. SOLUTION: The garbage treatment apparatus (1) for discharging the crushed garbage together with washing water to a drain pipe has the garbage treatment chamber (12) formed with a garbage throwing port on an upper end; crushing means (20, 22) for crushing the garbage thrown from the garbage throwing port; a garbage discharge part (18) provided on a lower part of the garbage treatment chamber and discharging the garbage crushed by the crushing means from the garbage treatment chamber; a discharge passage (24) formed so as to be communicated with the garbage discharge part; a water discharge valve (26) provided on the discharge passage and closed in order to cause the washing water to stay in the garbage treatment chamber at cleaning; and a water level restriction means (28) for restricting a water level of the washing water stayed in the garbage treatment chamber to a predetermined water level higher than the crushing means and not higher than the garbage throwing port when the drain valve is closed to clean the garbage treatment apparatus.
