PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively inhibit the steering sensor from growing in size by providing a highly precise steering sensor and a pair of main driving gear and following driven gear, and because of needles of providing a specific mechanism for inhibiting backlash around the gears. SOLUTION: The steering sensor comprises: a memory means (43) capable of memorizing the correction value for correcting the rotation delay of the driven gear to the main driving gear (7g) caused by the back lash at the time of reversing the steering shaft (105); an operation means (39) carried out by correcting the measured result measured by the measurement mechanism (15) based on the correction value stored in the memory means so as to calculate the rotation angle of the steering shaft. Since, the measurement result of the driven gear is corrected based on the correction value, the backlash between the main driving gear and the following driven gear is made perfectly or almost to coincide i.e. the high precision of the steering angle sensor is materialized.
