The device has a body (2), a guiding unit (1), and a sensor (4) that detects the body in its initial position. A controller (10) is provided for adjusting the pressure of a medium, and a device (5) is provided for producing a volume flow of the medium, where the medium is kept clean using a filter. The body is in the form of a sphere, cylinder or a cone, and is made from different materials with different density. An independent claim is also included for a method of measuring and monitoring a fill level of a medium in a container e.g. oil level in a gearbox or an engine.
