PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus enabling longitudinal photographing and lateral one flexibly without rotating the entire imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: A rotation support 101 is provided in an imaging unit 10 for attaching to an attachment 111 in a camera body 11. Some holes 1011 having different width are arranged in the circumferential direction of the rotation support 101. A sensor 11A provided at the side of the camera body 11 detects the width 1101 of each hole successively, thus detecting both the rotation and rotational direction of the imaging unit 10. A CPU not shown receives the detected result, and detects the posture of the imaging unit 10 for determining whether the posture of the imaging unit 10 is a longitudinal photographing posture or a lateral one.
