PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device for securing the free space of a recording medium without selecting any existing music data for compression. SOLUTION: This navigation device is configured to detect the number of times of use of area-categorized map data based on a traveling history in a navigation device 1, and to store the number of times of use of the area-categorized map data in an HDD 12, and to determine whether or not it is possible to store music data in the free space of the HDD 12 by a capacity comparison determination program when a music CD or a music DVD is inserted into a music input part 17, and to, when determining that it is impossible to store the music data in the free space of the HDD 12, automatically select and erase map data whose number of times of use is small from the number of times of use of the area-categorized map data stored in the HDD 12 for securing the free space of the HDD 12.
