PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an spark plug capable of suppressing supplied energy and igniting a fuel without being affected by an external air current, and an igniter using the spark plug. SOLUTION: The igniter 1 is constituted of the spark plug 2 and a power supply 3 for ignition. An O-ion generating member 25 is arranged and installed in a chamber 27 of the spark plug 2. The power supply 3 for the ignition applies a voltage which does not generate discharge at the spark plug 2. By this, sufficient O-ions can be secured in the chamber 27 before discharge. Since the chamber 27 is surrounded by the outer electrode 20, the generated O-ions are not diffused by an external air flow. Afterward, the power supply 3 for ignition applies the voltage to generate discharge at the spark plug 2. By this, discharge is generated in the chamber 27. Therefore, without being affected by the external air flow, the supplied energy is suppressed by the effect of O-ions, and the fuel can be ignited. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
