PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preceding vehicle state estimation system for judging whether or not the driving operation of a preceding vehicle is proper, and for informing the driver of its own vehicle of the information, and for preliminarily preventing any accident. SOLUTION: This preceding vehicle state estimation system is provided with a road circumstance/preceding vehicle recognizing means 1 for photographing the front of its own vehicle, and for grasping road circumstances and the image of a preceding vehicle; an inter-vehicle communication means 2 for communicating information between a plurality of vehicles traveling on a road; a state estimating means 3 for judging whether or not the driving operation of the preceding vehicle is proper based on the road circumstances and the image of the the preceding vehicle grasped by the road circumstance/preceding vehicle recognizing means 1 and the driving operation information of the preceding vehicle received by the inter-vehicle communication means 2; and a warning generation means 4 for issuing warning when the driving operation of the preceding vehicle judged by the state estimating means 3 is not proper, and for calling the attention of the driver of its own vehicle.
