PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crosslinked polymer particle which acts as an adsorbent treating physiological substances such as humor and/or liquids containing cells or the like or a complement system useful as a carrier for the adsorbent and least activates leukocytes. SOLUTION: The crosslinked polymer particle contains a polymer unit containing a vinyl alcohol unit and nitrogen as a constitutional unit. The crosslinked polymer particle has a nitrogen content in the dry material as determined by elemental analysis of 7.0-13.0 wt.% and surface nitrogen concentration as determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) of 5.0-15.0 at.%.
