Preparation of alpha -(3-arylthio)acetophenones (I) comprises reacting 4-substituted acetophenone (IV) with sulfuryl chloride followed by thiolate (IIIb). Preparation of alpha -(3-arylthio)acetophenones of formula (I) comprises reacting 4-substituted acetophenone of formula (IV) with sulfuryl chloride followed by thiolate of formula (IIIb).
