The device has a fuel delivery period, where a reference factor of the fuel delivery period is determined as a reference variable of the fuel delivery period based on the defect model of an electro fuel pump (12) and a high pressure pump (16). A rotational speed of an internal combustion engine and/or a temperature and a reference-delivery rate has influence on the defect model of the electro fuel pump and the high pressure pump. An independent claim is also included for a method for regulating a fuel delivery period of the injection valve of an internal combustion engine.
