Polarization-maintaining optical transmitter comprises a first collimator (1) for the coupling of first optical waveguides (2) as well as a second collimator (4) for the coupling of second waveguides (5). In the optical path (8) between the first collimator and the second collimator, a first polarization converter (7) is provided for the conversion of light of linear polarization in light of circular polarization. A second polarization converter (9) is provided for conversion of light of circular polarization in light of linear polarization. An independent claim is also included for the method of the polarization-maintaining transmission of linear polarized light.
