It is intended to provide growth environment for a plant such as a greening plant or an agricultural crop at a low cost by enabling the utilization of seawater and sewage water in watering the plant which is grown in a soil layer without resorting any treatment for removing salt from the seawater or harmful matters from the sewage water. Namely, an apparatus for providing growth environment for a plant comprising: a soil layer (7) for growing the plant; a water-retention material (9), which is contained in the above-described soil layer and/or layered thereon, for retaining water required for the growth of the plant grown in the above-described soil layer; a soil layer-supporting part (4) having a supporting face for supporting the above-described soil layer and the above-described water-retention material and water grooves for supplying water required for the growth of the plant grown in the above-described soil layer and discharging excessive water; and a water-supply part (5) having a water-supply channel (6) for supplying the seawater or the sewage water into the inner part and a water-discharge channel (6) for discharging the seawater or the sewage water contained in the inner part so as to give an upper space connected to the above-described water channel on the surface of the seawater or the sewage water.
