POSITION DETECTION ERROR CORRECTING METHOD

A position detection error correcting method for correcting a position detection error with high accuracy by using a limited storage capacity by calculating a position detecting error correction value by using simple four arithmetic operations at startup even if a steep error variation is included while reducing the delay of the startup time and the consumption of the capacity of the storage means. A detection error correction value of a position detector (6) is expressed by a correction function C(?) shown in Eq. 1 using a periodical function G(?), and the correction parameters An, Bn, D are previously stored in a non-volatile memory (1). At startup, these correction parameters are read, and the detection error correction value corresponding to the detected position is calculated and stored in a random access memory (3). The detection error correction value corresponding to the position detection value from the position detector is read out of the random access memory (3), and the corrected position detection value obtained by correcting the error of the position detection value is calculated.
