<p>A RF transceiver (300) includes a frequency synthesizer (100) a voltage controlled reference oscillator (201) a voltage source (203) and a controller (205) operably coupled to the voltage source for controlling the voltage applied by the voltage source. The controller is operable: (i) to compare a value of a known frequency of a RF signal received by the transceiver with a value of a current operational receiver frequency of the transceiver to estimate an error of the current operational receiver frequency; (ii) to calculate, using the estimated error, a change needed to the control voltage to change the reference frequency to eliminate the estimated error; and (iii) to control the voltage source to apply the calculated change to the control voltage.</p>
