Use of an alpha2delta ligand such as, for example, a compound of formula (II) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof in the manufacture of a medicament for treating tinnitus is disclosed, wherein the alpha2delta ligand is not gabapentin or tiagabine, and wherein R1 is straight or branched unsubstituted alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, unsubstituted phenyl, or unsubstituted cycloalkyl of from 3 to 6 carbon atoms; and R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen or methyl.
