PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique that enables use of appropriate logical volumes of a storage device when the number of active disk groups is limited in the external storage device. SOLUTION: A management apparatus manages the external storage device. The management apparatus acquires from the storage device management data representing disk groups being activated out of a plurality of disk groups included in the storage device. The management apparatus refers to the management data to execute predetermined processing for using logical volumes belonging to the disk groups in the storage device such that the number of disk groups being activated in the storage device does not exceed an upper limit value.
