A predetermined amount of a sterile, particulate, microbiological nutrient media is disposed within each flexible media envelope. The media particles have a shape and configuration that allows the particles to settle within the media envelope. The predetermined amount of media is such that the media envelope is not overfilled when filled with liquid sufficient to constitute the predetermined concentration.
