<p>Highly-dispersed organic solids from aqueous suspensions thereof can be coagulated by adding water-soluble cationic and anionic polymers to the suspensions using as the anionic polymer one or more substantially linear high molecular-weight polymer sulphonates which correspond to homo-polymers of vinyl monomers containing a sulphonate group. The anionic charge on the disperse solid is neutralized by addition of one of the polymers and then the other is added. Anionic polymers exemplified are homopolymers of ethylene sulphonic acid or styrene sulphonic acid. The aromatic nucleus may contain halogen or lower alkyl substituents in addition to the sulphonate group and salts of sulphonic acid may also be used. Amongst the cationic polymers exemplified are water soluble polyethylenimines and vinyl benzyl quaternary ammonium salts or copolymers of the same.
