<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical instrument that incorporates an articulation mechanism that can generate torque necessary to selectively articulate an end effector. <P>SOLUTION: The surgical instrument has articulation joints for use in the surgical instrument that has a portion that is passed through a trocar or similar structure and then articulated relative to another portion of the instrument received within the trocar.
