PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an autofocus camera which when displaying a range-finding area corresponding to the position of the focusing lens, is prevented from performing changed display due to an error in the detection of the position of the focusing lens. SOLUTION: In an AF electronic camera, an area focusing position corresponding to a closest subject is set as a final focusing position InfocusPosF out of area focusing positions InfocusPosA[x] calculated for each of a plurality of focus areas, and the focus lens is moved to the final focusing position. If there exist many area focusing positions equivalent to the ones corresponding to the closest subject, the final focusing position InfocusPosF is determined based on focusing display area selection priority. As for the focusing display area selection priority, selection priority is set to 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in order of the center A1, the left A2, the right A3, the upside (top) A4 and the downside (bottom) A5 of a photographic image plane when the AF electronic camera takes posture in a horizontal direction. The AF electronic camera selects and displays an area having the highest selection priority as a focusing display area out of focus areas having the area focusing position InfocusPosA[x] in a predetermined rangeΔPos from the final focusing position InfocusPosF.
