PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellently silent semiconductor light source device usable as light source elements for R, G and B light for a projection type video display device. SOLUTION: The light emitting surfaces of the R light source element 100R including a semiconductor R-light emitting element for emitting R-light, a G light source element 100G including a semiconductor G-light emitting element for emitting G-light and a B light source element 100B including a semiconductor B-light emitting element for emitting B-light are provided facing different surfaces adjacent to one another of a crossed dichroic prism 20, and also, cooling means are separately provided to the rear sides of respective color light source elements 100, and by distributing the cooling capability of each cooling means so as to establish B<R<G, the number of cooling fans is reduced, consequently, the semiconductor light source apparatus not causing the increase of the manufacturing cost of the device, and also, the scale increase of the device is attained, further, the projection type image display device using the semiconductor light source device is attained.
