PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas adsorbent capable of selectively and effectively removing harmful acid components such as a carbonyl compound, an organic acid and hydrogen cyanide and not emitting a free harmful component and amine impurities. SOLUTION: (I) The gas adsorbent has a propionaldehide adsorption capacity per unit mass of not less than 240 mg/g. (II) The adsorbent contains not more than 5μg/g of a monocyclic aromatic compound represented by formula 1. (III) The adsorbent has a propionaldehide adsorption capacity per unit mass of not less than 330 mg/g. (IV) The adsorbent has an amine elution rate of not more than 10μeq/g. (V) The adsorbent of 5 g is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing 100 ppm of propionaldehide of 25°C, and after an elapse of 3 minutes the concentration of the aqueous propionaldehide solution becomes 80 ppm or lower.
