An exterior material (160) for an electrochemical device is provided. The exterior material includes an electrolyte layer sandwiched between a cathode active material layer and an anode active material layer at least as a battery element. The exterior material (160) is composed of a ceramic layer (161) containing ceramics, and a resin film (163) or a metal foil (165). Short-circuit between the metal foil (165) and the battery element is eliminated by having the ceramic layer (161) in the exterior material (160), and as a result, durability of the electrochemical device is improved.
