The sheet guide includes an air blower (4) to pick up a the top sheet (3) of a stack (2) from a paper table (1) and place it on a transporting belt (5). An optical sensor detects the top surface, and has a light-sensitive surface. A shield plate (6a) moves with the sheet, detecting its position. An elastic shield plate makes contact with the light-sensitive surface.
