Apparatus for cleaning a moving belt (2) has a cleaning device (1), for impacting the belt, automatically adjusted to vary cleaning parameters by inputing cleaning parameters affecting the cleaning intensity; a detector (3) for automatically evaluating specific properties of the belt; and a controller (4), connected to the cleaning device and detector, for controlling or regulating the cleaning intensity by varying the parameters based on the detected properties. An independent claim is included for a corresponding belt cleaning method.
