PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent damage on equipment caused by abnormal temperature rise by discriminating propriety in temperature rise regardless of the tolerance of the equipment and the variation of a power source without adding a new sensor. SOLUTION: The fixing device is equipped with an abnormal temperature rise restraining means for restraining the abnormal temperature rise of a heating roll 151. In a warm-up period, a heating source heats the heating roll 151 until its surface temperature becomes predetermined fixing standby temperature Ht at which an unfixed image can be fixed, and also stops heating when the surface temperature of the heating roll 151 attains the fixing standby temperature Ht. The abnormal temperature rise restraining means detects the temperature rising speed of the surface temperature of the heating roll 151 before and after attaining the fixing standby temperature Ht, and performs predetermined abnormality processing when the temperature rising speed after attaining the fixing standby temperature Ht is nearly equal to the temperature rising speed before attaining the fixing standby temperature Ht.
